Earl Bruce Klyn, known fondly to friends and family as Bruce, came into this world on November 26, 1946 to Earl Henry and Neva Louise (Ratcliff) Klyn. He passed away on January 14, 2026.
Bruce’s life was marked by his love for agriculture, sports, and most importantly, his family. Bruce graduated from Baxter High School in 1964 and subsequently furthered his studies at Ellsworth Community College, before earning his bachelor’s degree in Biology from William Penn University. His love for sports was evident as he played football and basketball during his university years. Bruce’s professional journey began at Monsanto Chemical, but it was his bold venture into Roemerman Feed and Grain in 1973 that truly defined his career. With his entrepreneurial spirit, he grew the business by owning elevators in Blakesburg, Albia and Centerville. After a fulfilling career, he retired and returned to his roots, becoming a full-time farmer of Klyn Farms. He was proud that customers and friends would seek his agriculture advice. Even after selling his elevator business he still enjoyed spending time “solving” all the world’s problems with the “loafers” at the Blakesburg Elevator.
Beyond his work, Bruce was a dedicated Kansas City Chiefs fan. He loved playing cards, especially cribbage many times a week with many different social groups. He enjoyed golfing in his younger years, and coyote hunting throughout his life. He always had a dog in his truck with him, especially Dexter and Rascal. However, it was his unwavering commitment to his family that truly defined him. He made it a point to attend all of his children and grandchildren’s sporting events, a testament to his deep love for them.
Bruce married Janyce Kline on September 2, 1966, and while they later divorced, their bond remained through their shared love for their family. He is survived by his children, Eric (Jenny) Klyn, Kristen (Rob) Walker; grandchildren, Wyatt Klyn (Morgan), and Whitney Klyn; Drake, Avery, Brooklyn and Bennett Walker; one brother, Wayne Klyn; and previous spouse Janyce Klyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Henry and Neva Louise Klyn.
