Mildred Lucille “Sook” Rupe, 90, of Ottumwa, died August 15, 2026 at her home.
She was born June 15, 1936 in Ottumwa to James and Esther Carter Shepherd. She married Jackie Raymond Rupe on June 17, 1953 and he preceded her in death April 28, 2012.
A resident of Ottumwa all of her life, Mildred had worked at St. Joseph Hospital and at Universal Rundell for a several years.
She enjoyed spending most of her time with her family and going to her many grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events. She loved working puzzles, especially word search puzzles.
Surviving are her four children, Rick (Kerri) Rupe of Ottumwa, Brenda (Rob) Morgan of Ottumwa, Jackie Raymond “Sam” Rupe III of Ottumwa and Mary Jane “Angel” (Jeb) Brownfield of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; sisters-in-law, Mabel Shepherd and Donna Shepherd; brothers-in-law, Dave Park and George VanAlst.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Jackie Raymond Rupe II and Pamela Rae Rupe; a grandson, Cody Rupe; three brothers, George Shepherd, John Shepherd and brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Judy Shepherd; three sisters, Lillian Park, Sandy VanAlst, sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and James Randall.
Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 19th at Reece Funeral Home with family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, August 20th at Reece Funeral Home with Chaplain Doug McAntire officiating. Burial will be in McIntire Cemetery.
