Mae Marie Heinje, 93, of Ottumwa died at 5:00 a.m. August 14, 2026 at Ridgewood Specialty Care in Ottumwa.
She was born May 14, 1933 in Scotland County, MO to Walter L. and Emma Frosch Kunzman. Mae married Jack G. Heinje October 5, 1958 they enjoyed 58 years of married life until he died December 20, 2016.
Mae was a 1953 graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse in Ottumwa and McAllen, TX retiring in 1998.
Mae was an avid reader and a wonderful cook. She loved to crochet and loved flowers.
Surviving is her brother, John W. (Penny) Kunzman of Blue Springs, MO; nephew and niece, Doug (Janice) Heinje and Susie Cox.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Ila Mae Heinje, Ralph and Jean Eaton; nephew and niece; Russ and Serena Burton.
Visitation will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday August 20th at Reece Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday August 21st at Reece Funeral Home with Margaret Shank officiating. Family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service. Private burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Food Bank of Iowa.
