Connie Elaine Toemmes, 86, of Ankeny passed away on Saturday, January 10th 2026 from Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born August 14, 1939 in Sigourney to Casper (Cap) and Nolda Elaine (McCullough) Jacobs. In 1958, she married Thomas (Tom) Toemmes and two daughters were born, Cynthia Elaine and Elizabeth Suzanne, known as Cyndi and Beth.
Connie graduated from Fremont High School as Valedictorian and attended Parsons College. She retired from Ankeny Community Schools as a Media Specialist in the library at Terrace Elementary. She was a member of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny.
She is survived by daughter, Cyndi. She is also survived by granddaughters; Nicole and Megan (Daniel Ray); great-grandchildren: Brayden, Kaylor, Anthony and Aiden; step-grandchildren, Jenna and Ethan; sisters, Nadine and Trudy; brother-in-law Bob; sister-in-law Pam; and nieces and nephews: Kathy, Scott, Tara, Missy and Michael.
She is preceded in death by; husband, Tom; daughter, Elizabeth; and brother-in-law Richard.
Private funeral mass has been held at St. Mary of the Visitation in Ottumwa.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Ottumwa. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Planned Parenthood or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
