A regional agronomy manager at Beck’s Hybrids says longstanding research data shows early-season nitrogen applications on soybeans could have an impact on yield.
Steve Gauck tells Brownfield, “We’ve seen a big value in split applying nitrogen. We’re seeing a big value in loading some nitrogen up front with a planter and a two-by two-by-two placement system.”
He says soil type and application rate differ at various Practical Farm Research locations, but…
“Behind the closing wheels, putting Diazole or 28 on gives that soybean plant a bit of a boost,” he says. “We’re not seeing a reduction in nodule count. We’re actually running applications in that 30 unit range.”
Gauck says while this could be a costly investment for some operations, the company is currently studying a more affordable option for farmers.
