A wind advisory is currently in effect for several counties in central and southern Iowa, including Jasper, Poweshiek, Cass, Adair, Madison, Warren, Marion, Mahaska, Adams, Union, Clarke, Lucas, Monroe, Wapello, Taylor, Ringgold, Decatur, Wayne, Appanoose, and Davis. The advisory is set to begin at midnight tonight and will last until 9 AM CST on Wednesday. During this time, northwest winds are expected to reach speeds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts potentially hitting up to 50 mph.

This weather condition will impact cities such as Bloomfield, Centerville, Lenox, Pella, Newton, Chariton, Norwalk, Winterset, Allerton, Osceola, Greenfield, Ottumwa, Adair, Fontanelle, Carlisle, Mount Ayr, Bedford, Creston, Earlham, Lamoni, Corydon, Seymour, Atlantic, Oskaloosa, New Market, Stuart, Knoxville, Grinnell, Leon, Indianola, Albia, Corning, and Humeston.

Residents should be cautious as these gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects and outdoor decorations, potentially causing tree limbs to fall and leading to isolated power outages. Motorists, especially those with high-profile vehicles, should exercise extra caution while driving in these windy conditions. It’s advisable to secure outdoor objects to prevent them from being displaced.
