Bobby Joe Thompson, 79, of Albia, Iowa, passed away on December 9, 2025 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City.
He was born to Delbert Thompson and Faelous (Clester) Thompson on October 31, 1946, Bobby was a man who lived life to its fullest. He was a proud graduate of Albia High School, class of 1965, later serving his country in the Marines during the Vietnam era. As an individual who was always ready for a challenge, Bob embarked on a journey in construction sales, where he left a lasting legacy as a Truss Designer until his retirement.
He married Anne Carlberg, and to this union they had one daughter, Melissa Thompson who resides in Lakewood, CO. He later married Este Towns, and to this union one son, Michael was born. Bob was a man of many talents and interests. He ran Pat’s Pool Hall in the late 70’s, a period of his life that he fondly remembered due to the many friendships he formed. In his younger years, he enjoyed golfing. His love for travel was shared with his wife, Este, with whom he explored numerous destinations. He also enjoyed fishing and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Bob was also a gifted artist, leaving his mark on the community through his art pieces, including the eagle at the Eagles Club and the Owl at the old Owl Tap.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Melissa Thompson; siblings, Tom and Terry Thompson, Margaret Ballard, Randy Robnett, Malinda Robnett, many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Este; one son, Micheal; parents, Delbert Thompson, Faelous Robnett, and Dale “Hack” Robnett; brothers, Stephen Robnett, Brad Robnett; sister Karen Slycord, and Norma Arlene “Penny” Thompson.
Visitation for Bob will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, opening to the public at 3:00 pm at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia with family present from 5-7 p.m. Monday evening. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 10:30 am at the Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Richard Grimes officiating. Military rites will conducted by the American Legion of Albia, Melrose, and Lovilia.
Memorials may be directed to the Welcome Home Soldier Monument.
