Michael Joseph Flahive, 53, of Albia, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

Mike was born on August 9, 1972, to Daniel Joseph Flahive and Barbara (Stein) Kehr. From the start, Mike brought joy, energy, and laughter to everyone around him. He grew into a man known for his hardworking spirit, his generous heart, and his ability to make anyone feel like an old friend. If something needed fixing, Mike was already there with his tools, and, like his father, a joke or two to go with it. He never sat still for long, always staying busy, lending a hand, and leaving every place a little better than he found it. Michael and Heather (Cullum) were united in marriage on May 1, 1999. Heather was truly his best friend and greatest joy. Together, they built a home full of laughter, love, and many memories traveling and attending concerts. He was a proud and devoted father to his daughter, Hannah, and welcomed his son-in-law, Dalton, with open arms. More than anything, Mike was overjoyed to be expecting his first grandson, Wesley, in the coming weeks. A true Iowa Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers fan, Mike loved spending time at Lake Thunderhead out on his boat, where he found an abundance of joy surrounded by family and friends. He had an unmatched work ethic and never left a project unfinished. But beyond his many talents and passions, it was Mike’s fun-loving nature, faith, and deep love for his family that defined his life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Heather, daughter, Hannah Peterson, Son-in-law, Dalton Peterson, and new grandson on the way, Wesley. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Brenda Fulton; step-mother, Wanda Flahive; his siblings, Angie Moser; Mary Ann (Matt) Sarver; Jill (Matt) Blanco; Chris Sonnenburg; brother-in-law; Cody Cullum; sister-in-laws Brittney Keller and Kelsey Boone; and countless cousins and several nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Mike, as well as many close friends. Mike is preceded in death by his father; mother; paternal grandparents, Edward and Lucile Flahive; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Vivian Stein; father-in-law, Bill Cullum; and his nephews, Pete Sarver and Rowan Keller.

A celebration of life visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, opening to the public at 4:00 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. Memorials have been established to the family and will be directed at a later date. Those who knew Mike will remember his laughter, his warmth, and his unwavering devotion to those he cared about. He never met a stranger. His laugh, his stories, and his willingness to help anyone will be missed beyond measure. Mike’s legacy lives on in the people he loved, the projects he completed, and the countless lives he brightened along the way.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23
