David Manuel Mello Jr., known affectionately as “Mello,” age 31, of Bussey, Iowa, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on August 7, 2026.
David was born on February 16, 1995, in Audubon, Iowa, to Lynn Storoy McDavitt and David Mello Sr. He was also loved and supported by his stepfather, John McDavitt. David shared a loving relationship with his girlfriend, Anessa Johnson, and is survived by his son, Charles.
David enjoyed fishing, anime, music, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a kind and loving soul who brought joy to those around him. His warmth, humor, and presence made him a cherished friend and family member. His sudden loss is felt deeply and immeasurably by all who knew and loved him.
David is survived by his son, Charles; girlfriend, Anessa Johnson; mother, Lynn Storoy McDavitt; stepfather, John McDavitt; grandmother, Lorraine Fontes; siblings, Elizabeth and Nicholas; aunt, Michele Darrow; uncle, Hans Storoy; cousins, Amanda, Marinda, Mackenzie, Nolan, Hans, Kelsey, and Ethan; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, David Mello Sr.
There will be no services at this time. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
