Victoria Thompson Wins Ward 3 City Council Runoff Election

Victoria Thompson has secured victory in Tuesday’s runoff election for the Ward 3 seat on the Fairfield City Council, defeating Brian Horsfield with 115 votes to his 78.

Thompson’s win caps an unexpected series of events that began with the initial special election on September 2nd, where Horsfield appeared poised for an uncontested victory as the only name on the ballot.

However, a grassroots write-in campaign launched on Thompson’s behalf the weekend before that election propelled her to a close second-place finish. With additional write-in votes scattered among other candidates, Horsfield fell short of the 50 percent threshold needed to win outright, triggering the runoff election four weeks later between the top two vote-getters.

The special election was called to fill the vacancy created by the death of former council member Judy Ham in June. Thompson will be sworn in at the next city council meeting on October 13th and will serve until the seat comes up for regular election in 2027.
