The Southeast Iowa Super Conference Cross Country Championships took place Tuesday, October 14th, at Hillcrest Academy, where the Van Buren County’s girls squad captured the team title and Pekin’s Chloe Glosser won the individual championship.

Girls Race: Van Buren County Edges Louisa-Muscatine for Title

The seventh-ranked Van Buren County girls claimed the conference championship with 59 points, narrowly defeating Louisa-Muscatine by six points in a closely contested team race. Pekin finished third with 84 points, while Central Lee took fourth with 98 points and Danville rounded out the top five with 130 points. Columbus, Mediapolis, and Lone Tree completed the team standings.

Pekin’s Chloe Glosser dominated the individual competition, crossing the finish line first to capture the conference title. Her Panthers teammates contributed solid performances throughout the field, with Abby Guise placing 22nd, Maddy Petrehn 27th, Callie Deutschle 31st, and Bree Earnest 34th. Harper Guise finished 35th and Hailey Pedrick placed 36th to complete the Panthers’ lineup.

Van Buren County’s championship run featured exceptional pack running that proved to be the difference in the team race. Kayley Snowgren led the Warriors with a ninth-place finish, followed closely by Rylee Philips in 13th, Rory Philips in 21st, Gabby Titus in 23rd, and Adalyn Snowgren in 24th. This tight grouping of their top five runners, with all five placing in the top 24, gave the Warriors the edge they needed to secure the conference title. Emma Coffin added a 42nd-place finish for Van Buren County.

Boys Race: Bainbridge Leads Van Buren County to Fourth

In the boys competition, twelfth-ranked Van Buren County placed fourth with 105 points, while Pekin finished sixth with 143 points in a highly competitive field of 16 complete teams. Seventh-ranked WACO won the team title with 73 points, followed by tenth-ranked Louisa-Muscatine with 83 and eighth-ranked Columbus with 94. Mediapolis rounded out the top five with 109 points.

Van Buren County’s boys squad was led by Lincoln Bainbridge’s strong third-place individual finish. Gavin Noll followed in 13th place, with Landry Loeffler placing 18th, Leo Jirak finishing 33rd, and Reid Kite coming in 38th to round out the Warriors’ scoring five. Jeran Troxel finished 45th and Sawyer Spiker placed 54th to complete Van Buren County’s lineup.

Pekin’s Cole Millikin paced the Panthers with a fifth-place showing in the individual standings. Lane Fariss finished 10th, followed by Mason Dahlstrom in 22nd place. Brody Sobaski placed 48th and Landon Fariss finished 58th to complete the scoring for Pekin. Calyton Harvey placed 66th and Hayden Miller finished 70th to round out the Panthers’ team.

Both teams will look to carry this momentum into the upcoming postseason meets as they prepare for state-qualifying competition.
