The Pekin girls track and field team dominated the Class B competition at the Jane Astor Relays at Clear Creek-Amana on Friday, April 10th, winning the team title with 174 points — well ahead of second-place Iowa Valley with 120.5. English Valleys was third with 100, HLV fourth with 88, Durant fifth with 70.5, North Linn sixth with 66, and Belle Plaine seventh with 60. In the Class A standings, Linn-Mar won with 124 points, followed by Williamsburg with 98 and Clear Creek-Amana with 97.2.
Pekin had several standout performances, with Chloe Glosser putting on a show in the distance events and Anna Hadley dominating the throwing events.
Glosser won the 1,500-meter run in 4:44.29, not only claiming the Class B title but finishing first overall — beating the Class A champion Mia Deegan of Cedar Rapids Xavier by more than 13 seconds. She then came back to win the 3,000-meter run in 11:20.80, finishing fifth overall. Hadley swept the throwing events, winning the shot put with a throw of 45-02.50 to claim first overall — outdistancing the Class A champion Harper Pacha of Mid-Prairie by more than six feet — and winning the Class B discus with a throw of 115-03, finishing third overall.
Paislee Coleman won the Class B 100-meter hurdles in 16.50, finishing second overall, with Reece Brisby right behind her in second in Class B at 17.42, seventh overall. Pekin also won the 4×100-meter shuttle hurdle relay with Reece Brisby, Abby Guise, Aleigha Sieren, and Paislee Coleman in 1:15.20. The distance medley team of Mya Glick, Autumn Coleman, Fynlie Brooks, and Harper Guise won in 4:30.82 — first overall and narrowly ahead of the Class A champion Williamsburg at 4:31.44.
Addison Smith placed third in the 100-meter dash in 13.68 behind winner Elise Jones of Durant at 13.22, with Kendra Schultz 13th in 16.91. In the 200-meter dash, Autumn Coleman placed ninth in 32.63 and Ryleigh Garr 13th in 37.24 behind winner Ava Grieder of Belle Plaine at 28.02. In the 400-meter dash, Zoey Atkinson placed sixth in 1:18.34 and Zoe Heisdorffer seventh in 1:21.38 behind winner Kennedy Thiessen of Iowa Valley at 1:06.61. Abby Guise placed second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:22.37 and Aleigha Sieren sixth in 1:37.01 behind Thiessen’s winning time of 1:15.02.
In the 800-meter run, Zoe Heisdorffer placed seventh in 3:17.60 and Haven Hensley eighth in 3:24.29 behind winner Emery Hall of HLV at 2:25.14. Harper Guise placed sixth in the 1,500-meter run in 6:19.17 and third in the 3,000-meter run in 13:53.49.
The 4×100 relay team of Addison Smith, Taylor Moore, Brin Lauderman, and Paislee Coleman placed third in 56.03, with a second Pekin team of Autumn Coleman, Kendra Schultz, Fynlie Brooks, and Breanna Drish placing seventh in 59.70 behind winner English Valleys at 54.52. The 4×200 relay team of Fynlie Brooks, Breanna Drish, Taylor Moore, and Brin Lauderman placed seventh in 2:04.65, with a second team of Addison Smith, Zoey Atkinson, Callie Deutschle, and Ashlynn Adrian placing eighth in 2:18.43 behind winner Durant at 1:57.45.
The 4×400 relay team of Maddy Petrehn, Callie Deutschle, Abby Guise, and Mya Glick placed second in 4:53.22, with a second team of Ashlynn Adrian, Zoe Heisdorffer, Harper Guise, and Emerson Porter placing fourth in 5:34.18 behind winner North Linn at 4:28.31. The 4×800 relay team of Maddy Petrehn, Callie Deutschle, Ashlynn Adrian, and Emerson Porter placed second in 11:43.38 behind North Linn’s winning time of 11:00.40. The 800-meter sprint medley team of Addison Smith, Breanna Drish, Brin Lauderman, and Mya Glick placed sixth in 2:08.30 behind winner HLV at 1:57.72.
Anna Hadley led the throwing events, winning the shot put at 45-02.50 and the discus at 115-03. Kendra Schultz placed third in the discus at 90-01, Taylor Moore fifth at 84-09, Kendra Schultz fourth in the shot put at 31-06.50, and Moore fifth in the shot put at 31-05. In the high jump, Paislee Coleman placed second clearing 4-08, finishing sixth overall, Brin Lauderman fourth at 4-06, and Reece Brisby eighth at 4-04 behind winner Nicole Hensley of HLV at 5-00. In the long jump, Mya Glick placed second at 13-10.25 and Autumn Coleman eighth at 12-11.25 behind winner Annika Hultquist of Belle Plaine at 15-05.25.
Head coach Davis Eidahl was thrilled with the team’s performance and what it meant for the program’s confidence going forward. “What a great meet for a confidence builder,” Eidahl said. “Chloe ran three great races. She found out she could do it. Also girls that placed fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh found out that they were a very important part of the team winning.”
