On September 17, 2025, court documents state that Aschelin Brown, 24, of Ottumwa, received $1,005 from a victim to bail out the victim’s husband from jail and for gas expenses.
Court documents state that Brown did not use the money for its intended purpose and instead kept it for herself. After admitting to law enforcement that she had taken the money, she claimed that a co-defendant was responsible for its use.
A warrant for her arrest was requested on September 17. The warrant was served on October 10, leading to her arrest and subsequent detention at the Wapello County Jail.
Brown is facing charges of theft 3rd-degree aggravated misdemeanor.
