On October 1, officers in Knoxville were called to the 1800 block of Ellis Drive following reports of a domestic abuse assault. Witnesses at the scene alerted police to a man, identified as 57-year-old John Rees, who was seen kicking a woman in the driveway.
Upon arrival, officers knocked on the front door, and Rees answered with noticeable signs of intoxication, including unsteady balance, slurred speech, and bloodshot, watery eyes, along with the smell of alcohol on his breath. When questioned, Rees admitted to kicking the victim in an attempt to get her inside the house.
Officers observed visible injuries on the victim, including scrapes and bruising on her knees and legs. However, it was noted that she did not cooperate with the police during their investigation.
As a result of the incident, Rees was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail. He is facing charges of Domestic Abuse Assault, categorized as a serious misdemeanor for first offenses involving injury or mental illness. A no-contact order has been issued, and a cash/surety bond has been set at $1,000.
A preliminary hearing for Rees is scheduled for October 10 at 9:00 AM.
