Black Hawk County Supervisor Justin Brandt has announced his endorsement of Dave Bushaw, a No Party candidate running for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District in the November 3 general election.

Brandt, who was elected as a Republican in 2024, announced his endorsement Monday, October 12. In a statement released by Bushaw’s campaign, Brandt expressed frustration with the current political system and said he believes voters should have alternatives to the two major political parties.

Brandt acknowledged that he does not agree with all of Bushaw’s policy positions but said he believes Bushaw is willing to work with people from different political backgrounds on issues affecting the district.

Bushaw, a longtime community and labor organizer from rural Northeast Iowa, previously worked for U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont during his 2020 presidential campaign.

According to his campaign, Bushaw qualified for the November ballot without a Republican or Democratic Party designation. The campaign says its goal is to bring together working-class voters from different political backgrounds.

Following the endorsement, Bushaw and Brandt are scheduled to hold a public community discussion on Wednesday, October 21, at Bootleggers Kitchen & Bar in Waterloo.

The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., with attendees asked to arrive by 5:45 p.m. According to the campaign, the discussion will focus on finding common ground on political issues, followed by questions from attendees.

Early voting in Iowa begins October 14 at county auditors’ offices. Voters can find additional information about early voting and polling locations through the Iowa Secretary of State’s website at https://sos.iowa.gov/elections-voting.
