A Hillsboro man is facing charges after being accused of bringing weapons onto the grounds of the Fairfield Middle School during a church service last weekend.
According to court records, police were notified of a possible armed man at a service for Bridge Church on August 24, 2025. Church officials say the defendant, Roger Allen Cook, 56, of Hillsboro, Iowa, showed a patron of Bridge Church a loaded firearm that was located inside his vehicle. The Bridge Church uses the Fairfield Middle School facility on Sundays.
Upon the arrival of law enforcement, Cook reportedly admitted that there were two firearms in his vehicle. He was subsequently arrested. After a search warrant for the vehicle was granted, officers discovered a total of six firearms in the vehicle.
Cook has been charged with carrying weapons on school grounds, a class D felony. At his hearing for initial appearance, he was released on recognizance. His preliminary hearing has been scheduled for September 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM, and an arraignment is also scheduled for September 16, 2025, at 9:00 AM.
