The Fairfield Trojans volleyball team bounced back from a tough home loss earlier in the week to post a 3-2 record at the Ottumwa Volleyball Invitational on Saturday. The tournament performance improved the Trojans’ season record to 13-9 and provided valuable experience ahead of conference play.
Thursday’s Tough Test at Home
Before Saturday’s tournament action, Fairfield faced a significant challenge at home on Thursday against previously-ranked Williamsburg. The Raiders proved their quality by sweeping the Trojans 3-0 with set scores of 19-25, 23-25, and 15-25.
Despite the loss, the match provided a memorable milestone for senior setter Faith Jones, who surpassed 1,000 career assists during the contest. Defensively, Isabel McCready anchored the back row with nine digs as the team recorded 19 total digs. At the net, Jones and Jaden Haynes each recorded two blocks.
The serving game was solid with 86.0% efficiency, led by individual aces from Steele, Mallory Wigle, and Lexi Mast.
Close Loss to EBF
The Trojans’ second match proved to be their most heartbreaking of the day, falling to EBF in three sets (21-13, 20-22, 13-15). Fairfield previously beat EBF at the beginning of the season.

McCready was busy in the back row with 11 digs, supported by Wigle’s eight digs and five digs each from Iris Lane and Jones.
At the net, Steele recorded two blocks while Elyse Setterstrom, Bella Buckley, Jones, and Haynes each added one block. The serving attack was led by Wigle’s three aces, Mast’s two aces, and one ace from Steele, helping the team achieve an impressive 89.8% serving efficiency despite the loss.
Bounce-Back Win Against Albia
