Van Buren County Homecoming Date Changed Due to Opponent Shortage
The Van Buren County Community School District announced Tuesday that the homecoming football game has been rescheduled.
Highland High School’s football team has recently been rocked by both a shortage of healthy players and the sudden resignation of head coach Cory Quail. The school’s roster reportedly shrank to as few as 13 active players after numerous injuries, prompting the cancellation of upcoming games due to safety concerns.
The new homecoming game is now set for Friday, October 10th, when Van Buren County will host Wapello at home. School officials are encouraging the community to mark their calendars for the rescheduled date and continue their support of the Warriors football program.
“Mark your calendars and come out to support our team and celebrate Homecoming on the new date!” said Jessie Greiner in the district’s announcement.
The school district indicated that details about homecoming week activities, including dress-up days and other traditional festivities, will be shared closer to the October 10th date.
Van Buren County joins other small schools across the state that have had to adjust their schedules this season due to opponent cancellations related to low numbers.
