Roger Beane, 78, of Oskaloosa, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2025, at the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House.
Roger Alvin Beane, son of Louis Alvin and Maxine Louise (Thompson) Beane, was born on December 9, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa. Roger lived in Oskaloosa until 5th grade, when the family moved to Belle Plaine. He graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1965. After graduation, he attended Ellsworth Junior College for two years and then went on to the University of Northern Iowa, where he earned his teaching degree in 1969. While in college, he married Andrea Kay Goodman, the neighbor girl he had been sweet on since moving to Belle Plaine, on June 15, 1968, in Belle Plaine. After receiving his teaching degree, they moved to Stanley, Iowa, and taught science and health in the Oelwein School District. The school in Stanley closed, so he transferred to Oelwein Middle School, where he taught for 39 years. He retired in 2009. Roger and Andrea moved back to Oskaloosa in 2013 to be near family.
Roger volunteered with Trees Forever, the Ecumenical Food Cupboard, and the Environmental Learning Center. Roger was an accomplished wood carver; he had been carving for over 48 years and had created many figures of Santas, farmers, and ornaments. Together with Andrea’s woodburning talents, they formed a partnership and were showcased in the Cultural Building at the Iowa State Fair for eight years, selling their products and making many new friends from Iowa and other states. He was a member of the Des Moines Wood Carving Club and had also done demonstrations at the Iowa State Fair and Nelson Pioneer Farm on several occasions. Roger had many interests, but his true passion was his family; he always made time for them and cherished every moment with them.
His family includes his wife of 57 years, Andrea; his children: Amy (Mike) Klatt of Monroe; and Robb (Amanda) Beane of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren: Trevor Rau of Monroe; and Addison and Mason Beane of Oskaloosa. Roger is also survived by a brother, Ken (Beth) Beane of Pleasant Hill.
Roger’s parents preceded him in death.
As was his wish, Roger’s body has been cremated, and a Celebration of Life Service will occur at a later date in Oelwein, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Tree’s Forever in Oskaloosa or the American Cancer Society – Russell and Ann Gerdin Hope Lodge – Iowa City. Langkamp Funeral Chapel & Crematory has been entrusted with the arrangements for Roger.
