A 36-year-old woman, Flory Maghad, was arrested on August 18 after police responded to a call about an intoxicated individual lying on the side of the road. Officers arrived at the 100 block of South Cooper Avenue to find Maghad completely nude and exhibiting slurred speech, with a strong odor of alcohol.
Prior interactions with law enforcement led officers to be aware that Maghad had custody of three children, aged 12, 9, and 6 months, who were found inside her home without adult supervision.
As officers attempted to take Maghad into custody, she reportedly resisted their efforts, refusing to walk to the police car. Officers ultimately had to assist her into the vehicle for transport to the Wapello County Jail.
Maghad is facing multiple charges, including public nudity, a simple misdemeanor, and three counts of neglect or abandonment of a dependent person, classified as a class C felony. She is currently being held on a $10,000 cash bond.
During her initial court appearance, Maghad pleaded not guilty and waived her preliminary hearing.
