Jon Hanna, 75, of Beacon, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Jon Raymond Hanna, son of Raymond A. and Betty E. (McCartney) Hanna, was born December 14, 1949, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Jon’s family lived near Rose Hill, Iowa, but later moved to Oskaloosa when he was still young. Growing up, Jon attended school and graduated from Oskaloosa High School. After his education, Jon enlisted in the United States Army and served his country domestically and overseas, where he was stationed in Germany. While on a three-day leave, Jon was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Connie Sherman, in Beacon, Iowa. Following his discharge, Jon returned home and began working in the maintenance department for the Kaiser rock quarry. Jon later began working at Vermeer Manufacturing, where he worked until his retirement in 2014.
In his free time, Jon enjoyed tinkering in his garage. He could fix or make just about anything. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jon took multiple elk hunting trips to Colorado and fishing trips to North Dakota and Canada. Jon will always be remembered as one of the kindest individuals, always willing to help a friend or a stranger in need. Family was his true love; Jon would do anything to help his family, from running errands to just spending time with them.
Jon’s family includes his daughter Wendy (Brett) Bares and his two grandchildren, Stella and Grayson Bares, of Oskaloosa.
Jon was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Connie, his parents, Ray and Betty Hanna, and his parents-in-law, Bud and Dorothy Sherman.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with the family present from 4:00-6:00 p.m. to greet relatives and friends. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at the Beacon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House.
