The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced the extension of the Air Quality Alert for all of Iowa until 8 AM on Sunday, August 4, 2025. This extension comes in response to ongoing moderate to heavy smoke expected to impact most areas of the state, resulting in air quality levels that are considered unhealthy for sensitive groups and potentially unhealthy for the general population.
Sensitive groups that are particularly at risk include individuals with respiratory illnesses, heart disease, children, teenagers, the elderly, and outdoor workers. The DNR strongly advises these individuals to take necessary precautions to protect their health.
“Given the current air quality conditions, we urge all Iowans to limit their outdoor activities, especially those that are prolonged or vigorous,” said a DNR spokesperson. “Taking frequent breaks and staying indoors when possible can significantly reduce exposure to harmful air pollutants.”
Residents are encouraged to monitor local air quality reports and follow any additional guidance from health officials. The DNR will continue to assess the situation and provide updates as necessary.
