Born on September 3, 1947, in Fairfield, Iowa, to James and Madeline (Shanstrom) Lane, Dan’s life was marked by dedication to his family, a passion for his work, and a love for the simple pleasures in life.
Growing up in Fairfield, Dan’s early years were filled with the joys of small-town life. He later moved to Pleasant Plain, where he would spend over three decades creating a life filled with love and laughter. On April 15, 1991, Dan married the love of his life, Lonna Giberson, in a ceremony in Brighton, Iowa, which would mark the beginning of a journey filled with shared happiness and commitment.
For 40 years, Dan worked as a dozer operator for Delong Construction. He took great pride in his work, approaching every project with a level of skill and dedication that was admired by all who knew him. Dan’s work ethic was unparalleled, but he always made time for his true passions outside of work.
An avid fisherman, Dan could often be found by the water’s edge, rod in hand, waiting for the next big catch. He was also a devoted sports fan, cheering on his favorite football and basketball teams with fervor, and he could frequently be found watching documentaries on the History Channel.
Above all, Dan cherished the moments spent with his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, always present for the significant events and the quiet, everyday ones. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life, and he took every opportunity to create lasting memories with them. His faithful dog, Stella, was also a constant companion, bringing joy and comfort to his days.
His legacy will live on through his beloved wife, Lonna Giberson, his daughters Heather Six (Jeremy Rebling) and Jessica Six (J.K. Crago), his brother Jimmy Lane, his sisters Karen Gordon, Patty Lathrop, Kathy Klett, and Connie Gardner, and his three granddaughters, Kaylee, Kelsey, and Kayse.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Richard and Ronald Thomas and Harold Lane, his sister Peggy Lane, and his nephew Kelly Lathrop. Daniel Lane’s life was a testament to the enduring power of love, hard work, and family.
