A special procession will take place in Ottumwa on Sunday, June 29, 2025, following Mass at St. Patrick’s Church. The event marks the upcoming merger of two historic Catholic parishes — St. Patrick’s and St. Mary of the Visitation — into a new unified parish: St. Joseph Catholic Church, effective July 1, 2025.

The procession will serve as a symbolic act of unity and transition, honoring the legacy of both parishes as they come together under the new name.

Procession Details:

  • Date: Sunday, June 29, 2025
  • Time: Following Mass at St. Patrick’s Church
  • Route: From St. Patrick’s Church heading east
  • Purpose: To symbolize the formation of St. Joseph Catholic Church

Temporary Road Closures (10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.):

  • Church Street/Market Street from North Ward to East Fourth Street
  • East Fourth Street from Market Street to North Court Street
Streets will reopen gradually as the procession passes.

Important Notes:

  • Mass times for St. Patrick’s are available on their parish website.
  • Motorists should plan ahead and use alternate routes during the closure period.
  • Further updates may be posted closer to the event.
  • Additional information is available through the bulletins or websites of St. Patrick’s and St. Mary’s churches.

This procession will be a moment of reflection and community as Ottumwa’s Catholic faithful step forward together into a new chapter.
