Pauline Spears, 95, went to be with her precious Jesus shortly after noon on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.

She was born June 20, 1930 in Butler, IA to Ray Walter and Marjorie Grissom Hedlund. She was united in marriage to Melvin “Mel” Spears on May 15, 1948 at the “Little Bit of Heaven” in Davenport. To this union was born a son, Randy Ray and a daughter, Reta Janean.

She was a Farson High School graduate and a member of the First Baptist Church in Fremont. Pauline began playing piano at the Methodist Church in Pekin at age 10 and then continued throughout the years playing at various small churches, for wedding, funerals and family. She played faithfully for residents and staff at Manor House for the past 1 ½ years. She enjoyed watching basketball, reading, ceramics, crafts, quilting, calligraphy, crocheting, scrapbooking for family, yardwork, gardening, canning, writing letters to family and friends and of course piano playing. She grew up on a farm east of Martinsburg and helped her Dad with chores such as driving a team of horses to get hay up into the hay mow; and she enjoyed helping Mel with farming chores as well.

Surviving is her son, Randy (Linda) Spears of Hedrick; her daughter, Reta (Rod) Nelson of Fremont; 2 grandsons, Shannon Spears of Knoxville and Travis (Colleen) Spears of Vancouver, WA; 2 sisters, Maxine of Norwalk and Ruthie of Lebanon, MO ; 1 step- grandchild; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, her father and her mother.

Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Thursday June 26th at Reece Funeral Home with family present to greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

Per Pauline’s request, no funeral will be held and private graveside services and burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for memoriams at the Manor House.

Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
