Every year around Labor Day, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, becomes a hub of activity as thousands of people head to town for the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion. This long-running tradition has been bringing crowds to southeast Iowa since 1950, and it continues to grow in popularity.

While the Midwest Old Threshers museum is open year-round, it’s the five-day reunion that really draws in the crowds. Around 35,000 to 40,000 visitors come during that time—more than tripling the town’s usual population of about 9,500. The campground alone turns into a small city of its own.

Visitors can experience a variety of nostalgic attractions, from driving antique tractors to riding a steam-powered train or carousel. That carousel has even earned the nickname “the smile machine” for the pure joy it brings to riders of all ages.

One of the biggest highlights of the event is the entertainment lineup. Since the 1970s, major stars have performed on the outdoor stage—everyone from Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton to Brad Paisley and Reba McEntire (who performed there as a teen). This year, the lineup includes the Malpass Brothers, Cooper Alan, Priscilla Block, and for the first time, a nationally known comedian—Jeff Foxworthy.

The reunion wouldn’t be possible without the strong support of the Mount Pleasant community. Local churches and civic groups play a big role each year, stepping up to provide food, services, and plenty of helping hands.

The 2025 Midwest Old Threshers Reunion runs from August 28 through September 1. It’s a celebration of history, music, and small-town spirit that keeps people coming back year after year.
