The City of Ottumwa will host its annual Independence Day fireworks display after dark on Friday, July 4 at Ottumwa Park. The show is scheduled to begin shortly after 9:30 p.m. and is expected to draw large crowds from across the region. A rain date is set for Saturday, July 5.

Traffic around Ottumwa Park will be affected the evening of the show. Drivers using the Wapello Street Extension will be restricted to right turns only when entering or exiting the park — left turns across the median will not be allowed.

Residents are reminded that while fireworks are legal statewide, it is illegal to set them off in city parks, trails, The Beach Ottumwa parking lot, or other city-owned property. Violations may result in fines up to $500. Fireworks may only be discharged on private property within city limits on July 3 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on July 4 from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
