Danny Eugene Slutts, 60, of Ottumwa died at 3:18 a.m. May 31, 2025 at Mercy One Des Moines Medical Center.
He was born December 19, 1964 in Ottumwa to Kenneth and Ethel Witt Slutts. He married Tabatha Cain on February 22, 2007 in South Dakota and she preceded him in death on September 15, 2009.
A 1984 graduate of Ottumwa High School, he had worked for Jim Bragg doing lawn service, Adams Thermal System in Canton, SD and had worked for Corteva.
Danny was a member of Izaak Walton League and loved fishing, family barbeques, had a love for animals and loved spending time with his family, especially his daughter, son-in-law and grandkids. He was known as the family jokester.
Surviving are his children, Danielle “Ellie” (Marcus) Washington of Waterloo; a son, Kenny Boer of Ames; 6 grandchildren, Jakeem, Nevaeh, Lia, Imari, Malachi and Mya; a sister, Shirlene Batterson of Ottumwa; a brother, Randy (Jenny) Stevens of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marshall Hines.
Visitation will be open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 3rd at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 4th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Reeves officiating. Cremation will follow the services.
Memorials may be made to the family or to Heartland Humane Society.
