The Sigourney City Council met Wednesday night for their final session of the month.
Budget Business
The Council held a public hearing and officially approved the budget estimate for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
Council members also approved the Keokuk County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan, a vital move that positions the county to receive FEMA support in the event of severe weather like tornadoes or high winds.
Keokuk County Economic Development reported:
- The Sigourney Farmers Market is set to open in June, bringing fresh produce and local goods back to the heart of the community.
- A car show is also in the works for July.
Council approved the temporary closure of downtown streets to make way for Independence Day celebrations.
In preparation for the upcoming pavilion project, temporary parking space closures around Jefferson Square were also approved. This project is part of the city’s ongoing effort to create more usable, attractive public spaces.
The Council also discussed contracting French-Reneker, an engineering firm, to evaluate the Sigourney Water Tower for necessary OSHA safety upgrades. The project will soon go out for bid, with decisions on repairs coming later.
