On Thursday evening, the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to reports of a large physical disturbance in the 900 block of North Grand Avenue. Officers were dispatched around 6:16 p.m. after receiving information about a possible fight that might involve a firearm.

While en route, officers learned that the suspect vehicle had fled the scene. Fortunately, it was located and stopped on Mapleleaf Drive. Given the seriousness of the report, which included potential firearm involvement, officers had all occupants exit the vehicle. One individual was detained and arrested on an unrelated warrant from Des Moines County.

Further investigation revealed that the incident originated from an altercation among a group of juveniles. An independent witness reported hearing someone instruct another person to “get a gun out of the car.” However, after examining video footage and conducting a thorough review of the incident, police confirmed that no firearm was present.

Authorities emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active, and multiple charges are expected as it unfolds.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Mount Pleasant Police Department during this incident. Law enforcement officials remind the community that a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
