The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents about a recent phone scam involving callers impersonating law enforcement officers. According to the department, the scammers are convincing and may even have personal information about the people they target. The caller ID may appear as the Sheriff’s Office, but officials stress these calls are not from real law enforcement.
Victims report being told they missed jury duty and now face arrest unless they provide sensitive information or make a payment. The Sheriff’s Office says this is a common tactic used by scammers to pressure and frighten people into complying.
Authorities are reminding the public that they will never call to demand payment, threaten arrest, or request personal information over the phone. Anyone who receives a suspicious call is urged to hang up immediately and report the incident to the Sheriff’s Office.
The department is asking residents to help spread the word by sharing this warning with friends, family, and neighbors. Staying informed and cautious is the best way to prevent falling victim to these types of scams.
