Nathan Sage, Executive Director of the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce, has announced he will step down from his role on June 13. In a heartfelt letter sent to Chamber members, Sage said the decision was not made lightly and expressed deep gratitude for the community’s support during his tenure.
“Serving this community—you—has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Sage wrote. “The trust and support I’ve received from Knoxville’s businesses and leaders has inspired me every single day.”
Sage’s departure comes as he prepares to launch a campaign for the U.S. Senate. He is running as a Democrat in Iowa’s June 2026 primary.
Describing the opportunity as a “once-in-a-lifetime” decision, Sage acknowledged the difficulty of leaving his current post but emphasized that the move stems from a place of optimism and commitment to public service.
“I feel some sadness and even a little guilt in saying goodbye sooner than I had hoped,” he wrote. “But I want you to know: this choice comes from a place of hope, not distance. Knoxville will always be part of who I am.”
Sage pledged to remain engaged throughout the transition period and expressed confidence in the Chamber’s leadership going forward.
His candidacy is expected to bring further attention to Knoxville as he takes the next step in his public service career.
