The Centerville City Council held its first meeting of May on Monday night.
The consent agenda was approved, and Mayor Mike O’Connor opened the floor for public comment. No one stepped forward to speak, so the meeting moved on to the approval of bills.
Next were the department reports, starting with Chief Tom Demry of the Centerville Police Department. He said for the month of March, there were 38 combined misdemeanors and felonies, 24 vehicle lockouts, 42 hours of school resource officer time, and 26 occupants in the Appanoose County Jail. Demry says all officers will begin their mandatory law enforcement officer training, which will continue until the end of the year.
City Administrator Jason Fraser says the city has narrowed the field of candidates for the Chief of the Centerville Fire Department to three. They will be interviewed later this month.
The council approved the purchase of a new truck for the police department. After modifications, it will cost $85,500. Demry says the department expects to get ten years out of the vehicle.
The council next approved the sale of real estate at 513 and 519 West Elm via public bid.
To wrap up the meeting, the council approved a conflict of interest waiver for Cox Law Firm, the City of Centerville, and Chariton Valley Regional Trust.
