The Sigourney City Council held its first meeting of April on Wednesday night.
Cindy Dietrich brought to the council’s attention that she saw an individual carrying a bag of clothes and entering a structure on 101 South Jefferson Street. Dietrich had the impression that someone was living on the ground floor of the building, which she says is not coded to have people residing there. Dietrich says there is a bad smell on the property that can be detected in the adjoining buildings on 103 and 105 South Jefferson, which Dietrich and her husband own.
18 Dura-Last employees want to donate their time for community service to the city. The council says they will need a list to ensure the workers have suitable backgrounds. The council approved allowing the employees to perform community service.
The council approved three different Parks and Recreation motions: the Swimming Pool Policies and Procedures Handbook, the display ad for the 2025 flag football season, and the use of additional LOSST fund requests for a new trash receptacle.
The council also approved restriping the parking lot at the Sigourney Public Library and Sigourney Square. The project will go in a block in each direction.
Billy Claywell, the owner of the building on 101 South Jefferson Street, responded to Dietrich’s concerns. He says no one lives in that building, and it is currently being used as storage, which has been approved by the city. Claywell claims the Deitrichs have made several complaints and don’t bring any concerns directly to him, choosing to go to a third party instead.
