An Ottumwa man is accused of stealing a trailer from a victim’s property and returning it damaged.
24-year-old Spencer Myers has been charged with second-degree theft, a Class D felony, and second-degree criminal mischief, also a Class D felony.
On April 20th, court records say Myers and an accomplice took a trailer from the owner’s property without permission. The owner told authorities that while the trailer was gone, it was vandalized and sustained about $1,500 worth of damage. Ottumwa police say the trailer is valued at $3,500.
On April 23rd, an officer allegedly spoke with the accomplice, who stated to an officer that the trailer was at Myers’ residence and would be returned to the owner. The trailer was dropped off to the victim, and the owner noted the damage to it.
Myers was arrested on April 24th and transported to the Wapello County Jail. His bond has been set at $5,000.
Myers has a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 5th.
