A late-night police pursuit ended in a collision Tuesday, sending a central Iowa man to the hospital with injuries. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash, which occurred shortly before midnight on Highway 92 near Dean Avenue, just outside of Oskaloosa.

Authorities say 52-year-old Laverne F. Brackett, of Indianola, was driving a 2001 Chevy S-10.

Authorities say the suspect, identified as Brackett, was traveling westbound at high speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The car spun and came to a stop facing eastbound in the westbound lane. Moments later, it was struck by an Iowa State Trooper’s vehicle.

Brackett sustained injuries in the crash and was transported by Mercy Air to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. His current condition has not been released.

It remains unclear what prompted the pursuit. The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
