With an adventurous spirit and a heart full of love, Timothy W.M. Fortney, widely known as Timmy, lived his life with an infectious humor and spirited energy that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Born on March 16, 1996, in Ottumwa, IA, Timothy made the world a brighter place during his 28 years of life. He was a vibrant soul who touched the lives of many and left an indelible mark on his family and friends. In the words of Mark Twain, “The secret of success is making your vocation your vacation,” and that’s exactly what Timothy did. He turned his love for working with his hands into a career as a laborer, a role he held for a year. He was a hardworking man who was never afraid of a challenge, always ready to lend a helping hand, and always up for a good laugh. His love for his family and friends was the cornerstone of his life and brought him immense joy and fulfillment.

Timothy is survived by his mother, Tammy (Paul) Barnett, and his father, William Fortney. His siblings, Eric (Stacey) Barnett, Jamie Barnett, and Jessica (Shane) Reinier, will hold dear their memories with their loving brother. His grandfather, Ronald Baxter, and his aunts and uncles, Veronica Marshall, and Kenneth (Melinda) Baxter, Tim (Kathy) Fortney will remember Timothy’s zest for life. His niece, Katelyn, and nephews, Paxton, Matthew, Easton, Grayson, and Naythen, will keep the stories of their jovial uncle alive. He also leaves behind numerous cousins who were part of his extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Gloria Baxter, and his niece, Samantha Reinier.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at 10 am with a celebration of life service being held at 11 am with Shane Frazier officiating at Sinnott Funeral Home in Ottumwa. Memorials may be directed in Timothy’s name to his family. Sinnott Funeral Home of Ottumwa, serving all of southern Iowa is assisting the family with services.

In the words of Dr. Seuss, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” As we remember the life of Timothy Fortney, let us celebrate his spirit, his love, and his laughter.

We encourage all who knew and loved Timothy to share your favorite memories and upload photos to his memorial page. This will help keep the joy and love he spread in this world alive in our hearts forever.
