The Pella Police Department says a wife is in custody after allegedly stabbing her husband on Sunday.

56-year-old Marci Allen of Pella has been charged with attempted murder, a Class B felony, and domestic abuse assault – use of a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor.

According to police, officers were called to the 1200 block of Main Street just before 10:00 PM for a male who suffered a stab wound to his neck. Officials arrived at the scene and found the man in question in the basement of the residence with multiple stab wounds. Authorities say the male told officers that his wife attacked him with a knife.

Police identified Allen as the alleged perpetrator and collected a large kitchen knife covered in blood as evidence. Police say the investigation determined Allen attacked the man following an ongoing argument and assaulted him with a knife, causing serious injury.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and eventually transported to a hospital in Des Moines, where he is currently in critical condition.

Allen is lodged in the Marion County Jail. Her bail is set at $50,000.
