On March 26, 2025, Amelia Kaye Henderson, of Ottumwa, peacefully entered into the hands of Jesus at the age of 81.
Born on September 10, 1943 in Ottumwa to Dean and Ruth Closser Henderson, Kaye attended college in Minnesota and spent 25 years working as a CNA at Ottumwa Manor and Ridgewood Specialty Care.
Kaye was a member of Hickory Grove Community Church. She lived a life dedicated to her deep faith in God, love of learning and reading. Throughout her life, Kaye found joy in expanding her knowledge. She was a lifelong learner with a keen interest in genealogy, history, and the Bible, and never stopped seeking understanding. Her curiosity to learn led her back to college at the age of 67 where she completed courses in accounting, earning straight As. Her love for learning was matched only by her love for God. Her faith was the foundation of her life and her love for God was reflected in every action and conversation, and her strength in the Word was evident to everyone she met. Yet, it wasn’t just her faith that defined her. It was the stubbornness which she held on to it, even in the most difficult of circumstances. Through life’s trials – loss and hardships, Kaye’s faith never wavered. She faced every storm with the conviction that faith would carry her through.
Kaye believed deeply in the significance of family, both by blood and by choice, and had a special place in her heart for Devon, Johnnie, and Drew. Some of the most precious memories she held dear were watching them grow and mature into adults, finding their passions, and carving out their paths in the world. She took immense pride in every milestone and endeavor. Their antics always got a laugh – or a lecture. She leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, love, and indomitable spirit that will be forever cherished.
She is survived by several cousins; honorary family members, Heather Severson, Bruce Severson, Devon, Zeke “Johnnie” and Drew Severson; and special friend, Delores Carlo.
Kaye was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Dean.
“Lord, let me be what you have made me to do while I am on this earth. Show me what I am supposed to do for the Kingdom of God.”
