The Jefferson County Sheriff will have his attorney’s fees reimbursed after a vote by the Jefferson County Supervisors earlier this week.

Sheriff Bart Richmond will receive nearly $41,000 after a 2-1 vote by the Supervisors. Lee Dimmitt and Joe Ledger voted in favor. In the lone dissenting vote, Susie Drish made a brief statement.

“There’s no statute to authorize the payment of these fees under current law.”

Richmond was placed on the Brady-Giglio list last June by Jefferson County Attorney Chauncey Moulding. The list contains the names of law enforcement officials the prosecutor finds unreliable. Richmond was the only officer on the list. The officers that make the list are said to display issues such as untruthfulness, candor issues or criminal convictions that could affect their credibility.

Richmond sued the county to remove his name from the list, and a district court judge ruled in his favor on February 27. Since he could not utilize the county attorney’s services, Richmond paid for his own legal representation.

Moulding filed an appeal to the district judge’s ruling on March 4.

The approved supervisors’ motion states $40,932 will come out of the county’s budget for the 2026 fiscal year to reimburse Richmond.
