-Alaina “Lainie” McNurlen, age 18, of Keota, died Thursday, March 27, 2025, the result of an automobile accident.
Lainie was born October 12, 2006, in Washington, the daughter of Michael McNurlen and Bonnie Preston. She attended Mid-Prairie schools until transferring to Washington High School her junior year and was a senior at Washington High School. She was active in debate at Mid-Prairie since junior high. Lainie even started a petition there to allow freshmen to be on the high school debate team. Lainie enjoyed music, art, painting, animals and her sister and brother.
Survivors include her father: Michael (Julia) McNurlen of Wellman; mother: Bonnie Preston of Keota; brother: Finn McNurlen; sister: Lillian Yoder; grandparents: Dick and Janis McNurlen of Keota, Rev. Bob and Denise Preston of Keota and Roger and Janet Stutzman of Wellman and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Holy Trinity Parish – St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota.
