Iowa Hawkeye and NBA Standout BJ Armstrong
Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Community College Foundation is excited to announce
the 42 nd Annual Celebrity Night, sponsored by Winger Companies, featuring Iowa
Hawkeye and NBA World Champion BJ Armstrong.
Scheduled for Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the Indian Hills Dining Hall, the event will
feature a reception followed by a prime rib and seafood dinner, remarks by Armstrong
and an auction featuring autographed Iowa Hawkeye memorabilia and works from local
artists.
Before ever stepping foot on the court of the United Center, Armstrong made a name for
himself and impressed both fans and scouts alike at Carver Hawkeye Arena. The 6’2”
point guard’s basketball journey began at Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Hills,
MI, where he showcased his court vision and scoring ability, earning All-State honors
and establishing himself as one of the top high school players in Michigan.
Under the leadership of University of Iowa coaches George Raveling and Tom Davis,
Armstrong showcased his exceptional passing, leadership and scoring ability on his way
to becoming one of the most athletes in school history. He finished his college career as
the school’s all-time leader in assists and ranks among Iowa’s top scorers with 1,705
career points. Armstrong was a three-time All-Big 10 selection and helped lead the
Hawkeyes to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the
Elite Eight in 1987.
Armstrong’s success as a Hawkeye paved the way for his selection by the Chicago Bulls
as the 18 Th overall pick in the 1989 NBA Draft. Known for his sharp shooting and high
basketball IQ, Armstrong quickly became an integral part of the Bulls’ first three-peat,
winning NBA Championships in 1991, 1992, and 1993 alongside Michael Jordan and
Scottie Pippen. He was selected to the NBA All-Star game during the 1993-94 season.
Armstrong was traded to the Golden State Warriors in 1995 and also played for the
Charlotte Hornets and Orlando Magic before retiring in 2000.
