The current COO of the Ottumwa Community School District will be Pekin’s Superintendent next school year.
The Pekin Community School Board announced Tuesday that Dave Harper will be their next Superintendent.
Harper started his career in education at Pekin as a teacher in 1998. During his previous stint at Pekin, Harper also served as assistant principal, principal, and shared superintendent (with Sigourney Schools). The Pekin School Board says Harper’s superintendent duties included overseeing educational programming, curriculum and professional development, financial management, and ensuring effective communication among all district community members.
In a statement, Harper talked about returning to Pekin.
“I am truly honored to be selected as the next Superintendent of the Pekin Community School District. I am excited to rejoin the Pekin family and look forward to working alongside the dedicated educators, students, and families.”
Harper will begin his tenure as Pekin’s Superintendent on July 1st. Harper replaces interim superintendent Jeff Maeder who has been in the position since March 2024.
