The Sigourney City Council held its penultimate meeting of 2024 Wednesday night.
After the consent agenda was approved, Keokuk County Economic Development (KCED) Executive Director Gary Iosbaker gave a report. Iosbaker says KCED is finalizing a marketing brochure that will be distributed to various communities in Keokuk County and provide information on what KCED is about and foster relationships.
In the last week, Iosbaker says a new calendar function was added to the KCED website. Its purpose is to keep website visitors informed on events that will be occurring in the county.
Iosbaker mentioned going to the Iowa Women’s Foundation Childcare Summit last month. KCED is still compiling data and will make a full report later, according to Iosbaker. He shared that KCED is working on community funding for a childcare center. The purpose of the funding would be to enhance the wages for childcare workers which would allow the childcare center to attract high-quality caregivers.
Only one contractor made a bid for the Sweepster pickup broom and the council approved the lone bid for $2,300.
The final Sigourney City Council meeting of the year will be held on December 18.
