The council heard about an incident in which a woman and her dog were attacked by a pit bull while out walking. A law enforcement officer says the pit bull’s owner was notified that the council was going to discuss what to do with her dog but she was not present. The city council approved a recommendation that a letter be sent to the pit bull’s owner. The letter will order the owner to contact law enforcement within 14 days.

Up next was a discussion about a fence that would be put in between the pickleball courts at the park. The council approved the project with the caveat that its cost would not exceed $9,000.

The council also discussed a visitor’s guide that would be published in the Sigourney News-Review. The guide would contain points of interest and other facts about the various communities in Keokuk County. It would be a half-page ad. The exact cost of running the ad was unknown at the meeting so the council decided to table the matter for a later meeting.

Keokuk County Executive Director Gary Iosbaker says the main focus is the $10,000 raffle coming up this Friday. He did say tickets sales were a bit slow since this year’s event will be held in Hedrick.

The next city council meeting will be held on November 20.
