An Ottumwa man was arrested after attempting to break into an individuals apartment, according to the Ottumwa Police Department.
61-year-old James Cobler was charged with 3rd degree attempted burglary, and 2nd degree harassment – threaten bodily injury.
On November 8 at approximately 9:56 p.m., court records say Cobler was in contact with the individual throughout the day. Authorities say Cobler threatened to assault the victim with a brick and damaged the victim’s apartment door. Law enforcement say Cobler continued to contact the victim even after he told Cobler to stop.
Court records say Cobler attempted to enter the victim’s apartment by picking the lock. The victim was present in the residence during Cobler’s attempt.
Cobler was transported to the Wapello County Jail. He has a preliminary hearing on November 26.
