Court records say an Ottumwa woman faces numerous charges after repeatedly stabbing her boyfriend and holding him at knifepoint.
33-year-old Rebecca Tackel was charged with first-degree kidnapping (Class A felony), assault while participating in a felony (Class C felony), going armed with intent (Class D felony), domestic abuse assault (aggravated misdemeanor), willful injury (Class C felony), and possession of a controlled substance – third or subsequent offense (Class D felony).
According to the Ottumwa Police Department, Tackel armed herself with a knife with a seven-inch blade and stabbed her boyfriend who was sleeping in a tent in a wooded area on Albia Road on October 19 at 5:00 AM. Authorities say the victim was sleeping at the time of the alleged attack.
Court documents allege Tackel did not allow the victim to leave the tent and 10 minutes after the initial attack, Tackel stabbed the victim two more times. The victim suffered serious injuries from three stab wounds to his left forearm.
Police say Tackel kept the victim in the tent for hours and did not let him seek medical attention. A witness saw the victim and alerted his family and law enforcement. The victim was rescued and Tackel was placed under arrest.
Tackel is currently in the Wapello County Jail where her bond has been set at $500,000. She has a preliminary hearing scheduled for October 28.
