Mabel Alice Conrad, 91, of Hedrick, died at 5:35 p.m. September 21, 2024 at Hospice House in Ottumwa
She was born December 3, 1932 in Fort Madison to Vincil and Mary Marsh Johnson. She married Bob Conrad on May 30, 1958. He preceded her in death on April 22, 2016.
A graduate of Fort Madison High School, Alice earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Graceland College and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Iowa. She worked as a teacher in New Hall, Middleton and Washington, Iowa. Most recently, she taught in Hedrick, Iowa for 22 years, retiring in 1990.
Alice was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation, Arendt Bowlin Stubbs Post #83 American Legion Auxiliary, and the Daughters of the Union Veterans.
Surviving are her children; Pat Conrad of Hedrick and Mary Oppenheimer of St. Olaf, IA; 7 grandchildren; Jesse Sanders, Josiah Conrad, Tyler Conrad, Robert Oppenheimer, Jared Oppenheimer, Derek Oppenheimer and Ruthie Conrad; five great-grandchildren; Austin Johnston, Jaycie Warwick, Calen Sanders, Kinley Sanders and Kiiyaanii Ross; and a brother, Vernon (Barb) Johnson of Fort Madison, IA as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Ray Conrad, and a grandson, Shawn Conrad.
Her body has been cremated.
Graveside services and inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday September 28th at Calvary Cemetery with Father Ben Snyder presiding.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties, charity of choice or do something nice for someone.
