Shirley Maxine King went home to Jesus on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the age of 85 in St Louis, MO.
Shirley was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on February 28, 1939 to Robert Henry Knox and Olive Pearl Knox (Capps).
Shirley graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1957 and later worked as telephone operator.
She married her loving husband, Robert Wayne King, on September 4, 1959 and went on to have three sons, Stephen, Robert, and Kevin. She raised her family in Iowa settling in Altoona for 30 + years. She moved to Missouri in 1998.
Shirley was full of light and pure joy, traits that were obvious to anyone after just a single conversation with her. She truly loved life and enjoyed the simple pleasures that it brought. She loved spending time with friends and family, cooking and sharing meals with them that she had prepared. Shirley enjoyed sports and spent countless hours watching them as well as westerns, musicals, and war movies with her husband Wayne to pass the hours. She loved crafting in her later years and enjoyed making small trinkets and giving them away. She touched all our lives in many ways, as a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Wayne King of Ofallon, MO, her sisters Janice Clark and Suzanne Martin of Ottumwa, Iowa, her three sons, Stephen M. King (Debra) of Chesapeake, VA, Robert A. King (Christine) of Ofallon, MO, and Kevin W. King (Shemalya) of Sahuarita, AZ, her fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
