A former Evans Middle School teacher pleaded guilty to a sexual abuse case from 2018.
42-year-old Zachary Barr was charged with sexual exploitation of a minor, enticing a minor under 16, sexual exploitation by a school employee, and two counts of dissemination and exhibition of obscene material to minors.
In June and July 2018, court records say Barr, a sixth-grade teacher at Evans Middle School, sent illicit messages to one of his 13-year-old female students via social media. Law enforcement took control of the student’s social media accounts and proved Barr’s conversations were sexual, which prompted his arrest.
On August 21, 2024, court records say Barr pleaded guilty to enticing a minor under 16 years of age, and sexual exploitation by a school employee. All other charges were dropped.
Barr is scheduled to be sentenced on September 9.
